OFFENCES

Main Scripture: Luke 17:1

«“Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come…” — Luke 17:1 (KJV)»

In the world that we live in, we cannot run away from offences.

Jesus said it is impossible for offences not to come. Offences will surely come. We cannot say, “I want to live a life where nobody will offend me.”

It comes from people that you truly love. It comes from people that are dear to you. Most times, it can even come from people you least expected.

So the question is: How do you manage offences?

Do you become bitter?

Do you keep malice with your colleagues, your neighbours, your schoolmates, or your teachers?

What happens when somebody does something that hurts you?

You have to make up your mind to forgive.

You have to allow the Lord to work on your heart. If you don’t, you may take decisions that you will later regret in your life.

Offences will surely come, but the way you handle them matters.

You must also be discerning in times and seasons. You need to understand that offences are part of the things you will encounter in your relationships with people.

You can’t run away from offences.

Sometimes, you can tell where the offence is coming from. It may come from your spouse, your friends, your neighbour, your colleague, or even someone you trust.

And when it happens, what do you do?

Do you become resentful?

Do you become bitter?

Do you stop talking to your classmates?

Do you leave your church?

Do you allow one offence to destroy a relationship or make you walk away from something God has placed you in?

You need to have a large heart and make up your mind to forgive.

Don’t allow offences to take root in your heart.

Allow the Word of God to find expression in your heart. Let the Word shape the way you respond when people hurt you.

You may not be able to prevent people from offending you, but you can decide how you will respond when offences come.

Offences will come, but don’t allow them to become bitterness in your heart.

Make up your mind to forgive.

Allow the Lord to work on your heart, and let His Word find expression in you.

God bless you
